FAQs
Planning a wedding and wondering what a celebrant does—or how a celebrant-led wedding works alongside the legal side of marriage? You’re not alone! Here are the most commonly asked questions from couples across the UK, Spain, and Europe who want a ceremony that’s personal, heartfelt, and completely their own.
What is a celebrant wedding?
A celebrant wedding is a non-legally binding ceremony created and delivered by a professional celebrant. It allows couples complete freedom over their wedding—location, content, tone, and structure—without the limitations of religious or civil restrictions. Your story, your way.
Is a celebrant wedding legally binding?
Not at the moment. In the UK and most of Europe, the legal marriage paperwork must be completed separately—usually at a local register office in a short appointment with two witnesses. After that, your celebrant-led wedding is the real celebration: vows, rings, readings, rituals, and all the emotion.
Where can we have a celebrant-led wedding?
Anywhere you like! That’s one of the biggest benefits. I’ve conducted ceremonies in villas, vineyards, gardens, beaches, barns, rooftops, private homes—even car parks! Whether you’re marrying in the UK countryside, a Spanish finca, or a French château, there are no venue restrictions.
Can we include religious or cultural elements in a celebrant wedding?
Absolutely. A celebrant-led wedding is fully customisable. You can include spiritual readings, religious references, cultural rituals or symbolic elements that reflect your background and beliefs. From Celtic handfastings to Hindu garland exchanges or Jewish blessings—everything can be tailored to you.
Do we have to write our own vows?
No—but you can if you want to! Many couples choose to write their own vows with my support. I offer a gentle, proven process to help you craft vows that are authentic, heartfelt, and completely “you.” If the thought of speaking them aloud fills you with dread, I can incorporate your vows in a more relaxed format—like a “Do you promise…?” exchange.
How do you make each ceremony unique?
Every ceremony I write is completely bespoke—crafted from scratch after getting to know you. Through a thoughtful questionnaire and personal meetings, I learn about your story, values, humour, and style. I’ve even created rituals based on mojitos, Tuaca shots, Harry Potter, and cultural heritage. No scripts. No templates. Just your story, beautifully told.
Can we include family or friends in the ceremony?
Yes! In fact, many couples choose to involve children, parents, godparents or friends through readings, symbolic rituals, or unique roles like ring warming or “ring security.” It’s your day, and I’ll help you find the perfect way to include the people who matter most.
What are symbolic rituals, and should we have one?
Symbolic rituals are visual or interactive moments that reflect your relationship. Think handfasting, sand ceremonies, unity candles, rose ceremonies, or even something totally bespoke. They add another layer of meaning to your day—and can involve loved ones too.

Do you travel for ceremonies?
Absolutely! I’m based on between the UK and Spain but regularly travel across the UK and Europe to deliver weddings. Whether you’re planning a countryside ceremony in Surrey, a celebration in Seville, or a Tuscan hilltop wedding, I’m happy to come to you.
What’s the booking process like?
We start with a no-obligation discovery call so we can see if we’re a good fit. From there, I’ll send over a quote and draft contract. Once you book, we’ll begin planning your ceremony together—and I’ll guide you every step of the way. You will complete a series of fun questionnaires designed to get you thinking about all the ceremony elements and you complete some together and some separately.
How far in advance should we book you?
As soon as possible! I only take on a limited number of weddings per year to ensure each couple gets my full attention. For UK and European destination weddings, it’s best to book at least 6–12 months in advance if possible.
How much does a celebrant wedding cost?
My fees vary depending on the location and complexity of your ceremony. All pricing is fully transparent and includes script writing, vow support, ceremony planning, and delivery on the day. Travel and accommodation may apply for destination weddings. Contact me for a personalised quote. I don’t offer any off the shelf ceremonies - that’s just not my style.
